Nick Howell

Nick Howell is a 1989 graduate of the Royal Veterinary College in London. He has worked in the UK and New Zealand, and has also been involved in animal health care work in lesser developed parts of the world. He has recently completed post graduate qualifications in emergency medicine, orthopaedic surgery, cardiorespiratory medicine, clinical pathology and neurology. Outside of work you will find him busy with a range of DIY projects, playing music and climbing up the occasional mountain.

Yolande Howell

Yolande qualified in 2002 from the University of Sydney with Honours, and has accrued vast experience working in Australia, the UK and New Zealand. She has recently completed post graduate qualifications in avian medicine and surgery, ophthalmology, soft tissue surgery, dermatology and oncology. Outside of work Yolande is a busy mum (both human, feathered and fur babies) and enjoys art, reading, music, skiing and swimming.

Jessica Boden

Hi I’m Jess! After graduating from Massey in 2013 and working in Taranaki, I have recently moved home to Christchurch to raise my young family. I have wanted to be a vet since 2 years old and now I get to live the dream! I have particular interest in companion animal dentistry and dermatology. Outside of work I can be found playing with my little boy in Hagley Park, at the beaches on Banks Peninsula in summer or at Mt Hutt in winter. I am looking forward to meeting you and your fur family soon.

Courtneay Whitt – Head Nurse

Hi everyone, I’m Courtneay. I am the Nurse Manager here at the Selwyn Veterinary Centre and have been lucky enough to work here with Nick and Yolande from the day the clinic opened.
I graduated from Christchurch Polytechnic with a Certificate in Veterinary Nursing in 2013. I have always loved animals so having a career in Veterinary Nursing was the perfect choice for me. Since working as a Veterinary Nurse I have become especially passionate about animal welfare, behaviour and nutrition.
When I am not working I am kept very busy with my own family of animals. I spend a lot of time doing agility and walking with my English Pointer Greyhound cross named Ollie. I also have 3 cats: my spoilt princess Brandy and two rescues Bombay and JD.

Katie-Rose Murray – Vet Nurse

Hi my name is Katie Murray, I have just graduated as a vet nurse from CPIT this year (2015). I have lots of love for all animals! I grew up on a farm in North Canterbury with lots of family pets around, at the moment I have a bouncy young Labrador – George, a fluffy rabbit – Daisy and my dad and I have just re-homed a Jack Russell – Nix. In my spare time I love to swim, ski, camp, head to the beach (anything outdoorsy really), spend time with friends, family and occasionally get into arty creative projects. I look forward to meeting you in the clinic.

Helen Trevathan – Vet Nurse

Hi my name is Helen. I am currently finishing my vet nurse training via distance through Otago Polytechnic which finishes this year (2017). Last year I started work experience at the clinic and now I’m lucky enough to be working here part time. I live on a lifestyle block with my husband and our two young boys. Our line-up of animals include horses, alpacas, cats, chickens, guinea pigs and a rabbit – it’s a busy place! In my spare time I love running and fitness, as well as spending time on the “farm” with my family. I look forward to meeting you and your lovely pets soon.

Kate Lewis – Vet Nurse

Hi my name is Kate. I have recently qualified as a Veterinary Nurse at the end of 2016. I have volunteered in several clinics before starting work here. I have always had a strong passion for animals since I was little. There were many times growing up that I would bring home a stray dog or injured bird! I currently have one mischievous cat called Toby and hope to one day fill my home with many more animals. When I am not busy in the clinic I enjoy walking up the Rapaki and along the beach. I look forward to meeting you and your fur babies in the clinic soon!

Lucy Nicholson – Vet Nurse

Hi, my name is Lucy and I trained at Vet Nurse Plus in Auckland, graduating in 2016. I am passionate about animal welfare and in my spare time I volunteer at a local dog rescue (there are often loveable puppies to cuddle which is a definite bonus!).
Pets have always been a part of my life – I grew up with both dogs and cats, and I currently have two guinea pigs: Charlie and Tango.
When I am not in the clinic I can be found going for walks through the Botanic Gardens or up mountain tracks, wrestling for my local club, or volunteering at the rescue. I love the Summer and love to get outdoors, but I also enjoy the movie-watching weather that Winter provides. I look forward to meeting you in the clinic soon!
