Here at Selwyn Vet Centre we are fortunate to have access to CT and MRI advance imaging options.
CT & MRI scans are designed to take very detailed images of your pet's bones , spinal cord and internal organs. They pick up things we may not see on plain x-ray or blood tests, and it is often very useful after an accident or in conditions where we need additional information to help form a diagnosis and/or treatment plans.
CT & MRI scans regularly form part of human medicine. They help diagnose medical conditions, plan treatments and assess effectiveness of treatments that had been given to a patient. CT and MRI scans have become more accessible to our pets in recent years and we are so lucky to be able to offer these options for your pets here in Rolleston.
This procedure does require that your pet is under sedation, they have to be very still for the scanner to take their images. Our experienced team will perform the sedation and recovery like we usually do in hospital and arrange to send your pet home when they are fully recovered from their sedation. We will discuss the details with you prior to your pet's procedure.
It is prudent that you tell your vet whether your pet has any past orthopaedic surgeries and metal work inserted in their bones as they may not be able to undergo an MRI scan.
After the scan is completed, the images taken are sent to a specialist veterinary radiologist for interpretation. We then discuss the findings with you when we receive the results.
